New York State

A Black A-Frame, Catskills New York

You may recognise A Black A-frame, as it has become somewhat Insta famous, and for good reason! The A-frame is located on the edge of the Catskills NY, in a lovely neighbourhood, with easy access to some awesome hikes - if you ever wish to leave the house that is . The A-frame cabin design is so cosy, with a fireplace as an added bonus, making it more difficult to make plans beyond curling up in front of the fire with a good book.

Whiteface Lodge, Lake Placid New York

Whiteface Lodge is a log cabin style hotel, nestled in the Adirondack mountains. Before I get into the Accommodation, I think it’s important to note here how amazing the Adirondacks are. It’s actually become one of my favourite places in America, and is home to one of my most favourite hikes I have ever done. The bottom line is, it’s worth visiting the Adirondacks regardless of where you stay. If you are looking for bucket list worthy accommodation however, look no further than White face lodge. The entrance and reception area sets the scene for your stay, with rustic wooden decor, roaring fires and cosy reading corners. The restaurant is stunning and the grounds even more so, complete with an outdoor heated pool, and hot tubs to rest your aching muscles after a day in the mountains.

The Scenic Orchard at Akaydia, Foothills of the Adirondacks, New York

Scenic%2BOrchard%2B1.jpg

I always seem to arrive in the night when I visit a new airbnb, but it makes it all the more exciting when I wake up to see where on earth I am, and The Scenic Orchard did not disappoint. You will awaken in the comfiest bed, surrounded by a gorgeous landscape, that will have you cancelling your day’s plans in exchange for a lazy day in this luxurious tiny home. A freaking shipping container! Beautifully converted into the ultimate weekend getaway, complete with an epic fire pit, hot tub, fairy lights and stunning picture windows. I’d recommend setting an early alarm and raising the blinds to catch the most amazing sunrise, especially on a cold crisp day.

Emily – the host, is nothing short of amazing, and provides a bucket load of other little treats on offer, unlike anything I have ever seen before. I won’t ruin too many of the surprises, book it for yourself to find out!

Seneca Sol, Burdett New York

If you are thinking about visiting the Finger Lakes region of New York, Seneca Sol is a perfect place to stay! Located in a secluded forest setting, their safari tents are a fantastic glamping experience. My favourite part of the stay was enjoying their delicious complimentary continental breakfast, whilst sitting on our private balcony, looking out into the woods (Their freshly baked pastries were divine!!). If you aren’t familiar with the Finger Lakes Region, know that it is famous for producing excellent wine, and there are vineyards everywhere! Seneca Sol actually provide their own exclusive wine tour, so be sure to make a reservation!

Pawtuckaway State park, Nottingham New Hampshire

You might be thinking ‘Does a campsite belong on a bucket list?’. . . .  but this place is special - trust me. Visit in summer for lazy days by the lake, or in the fall for moody misty mornings, surrounded by vibrant forests. This camp site is so good, I almost want to keep it a secret! We visited in the fall, and woke up early to watch the sunrise on the lake and honestly? It’s my most favourite sunrise I have ever watched. Some of the campsites are located next to the water, and I would highly recommend selecting one of those if you can. We put up our 2 person ENO Hammock between the trees, and sat drinking our morning coffee whilst watching the mist lift - perfection! The waterfront spots are highly sort after, so book in advance! Horse Island would be my preferred island to choose a site from.

Sleeps – Up to 6 people per site (4 adults)

Price – From $30 per night

Puppy Friendly? – No

Suitable for Families? – Yes

Don’t have a tent? Check out REI and see what they have that would suit your style and budget!

I wanted something small and extremely lightweight that I could take hiking with me, so I chose the NEMO dagger™ ultralight backpacking tent

If camping isn’t really your thing, there is also cabins you can hire, starting from $65 per night for up to 6 people. (Maximum of 4 adults)

Maine

Seguin Tree Dwelling’s, Georgetown Maine

I wasn’t planning on rating these getaways (because I love all of them), but I can’t not share with you, that if I had to choose, this one would sit at the very top of the list! In fact, I’d go as far as saying it’s my most favourite place I have ever stayed.

Located within the forest and looking out over the river, these treehouses allow you to live out your childhood dreams, high among the pines - they are truly magical. We stayed in the tree house named Souhegan - meaning watching place, and what a watching place it is. The tree houses are decorated with a minimalistic style, providing a truly relaxing retreat that you will never wish to leave. The wood fired cedar hot tub is a real bonus and is perfectly positioned to admire the wonderful views the tiny home has to offer. There’s also a log burner in the bedroom, that made the home so cosy, I would fall asleep within minutes.

Every passing hour at the treehouse just got better and better. If it isn’t on your bucket list yet, what are you waiting for!?

Sleeps – Up to 4 people

Price – From $293 per night

Puppy Friendly? – No

Suitable for Families? – Not suitable for infants (under 2 years)

Rhode Island

Ocean House, Watch Hill Rhode Island

Ocean House is a truly iconic, New England Seaside resort and it steals my heart more and more, every time I visit. I recently learned that Ocean House is a triple Five-Star resort, and one of only 13 resorts in the world with this honor.

It is also a member of the Relais and Chateaux associastion – who set the gold standard for unique, high-end, independent hotels and restaurants around the world. Ultimately, you only gain a Relais and Chateux membership if you are the best of the best, so hopefully this gives you an idea of how wonderful Ocean house is.

Price – From $520 per night

Puppy Friendly – Yes (A cleaning fee will be applied)
